Pre-K Requirements and Program Information

MNPS Pre-K programs prepare your child for kindergarten by developing foundational academic skills through play-based learning. Early learning programs are available throughout Davidson County.

Age Requirements

A child must be 4 years old on or before August 15 of the current school year to apply for MNPS Pre-K.
Some MNPS Pre-K programs accept 3-year-olds. A child must be 3 years old on or before August 15 of the current school year to apply for these programs. During the selection process, 3-year-olds who will be turning four between August 16 - September 30 will be given priority.
Families that are already working with the MNPS Exceptional Education (EE) Department or if your child is transitioning from Tennessee Early Intervention Services (TEIS) can complete steps 1 and 2 (below) starting at 2 years 7 months old.

Gather All Required Documents

Gather your required documents, which include your child’s birth certificate and proof of residency.

Required Documents:
- Birth certificate or record of birth
- Proof of Davidson County residency: current utility bill, telephone, lease, or homeowner policy in the parent/guardian name.
- Parent/Guardian photo ID (Parent/Guardian must be present if scheduling an appointment with an Enrollment Center)

Obtain a Student Identification Number

Get your Student Identification Number through the MNPS Online Portal and follow instructions to upload the required documents.

Apply for Pre-K Online

While the priority application window has closed for the 2024-2025 school year, families can check for open seats at any time of the school year.

After you have received a student identification number for your child:

2024-25 Pre-K Application
- The Pre-K Application opens March 1, 2024 (9:00 a.m.)
- Complete and submit the online 2024-25 Pre-K Application (families will need to create an account) or contact the Family Information Center at (615) 259-INFO (4636) if you need help or cannot apply online. Note: It may take up to a day for your MNPS Student ID number to connect to the Pre-K application platform.
- Make sure to select the 2024-25 Pre-K application.
- Families who apply by April 1, 2024 (3:30 p.m.) will be included in the initial application selection process.
  - Pre-K applications will continue to be accepted after April 1st and applicants will be placed as vacancies occur.
- After submitting the 2024-25 Pre-K application, families will receive instructions about next steps. Families can also view their Pre-K selection results by visiting the Pre-K application website.

What's Next after Applying?

Families will receive instructions on how to view the selection results and if selected can accept the seat by the stated deadline.

Dates below are for the 2024-25 Pre-K application process (for families that applied March 1, 2024 - April 1, 2024 (3:30 p.m.).

April 15: Selection results.
April 29: Deadline to accept the seat.
April 30: School Mint will begin making additional daily pulls to fill the remaining vacancies.
