Pre-K Program Options
It is important to choose a program that is the best fit for your child’s needs. As a parent, you know what environment your child thrives in, and we have many fantastic options for you.
Our youngest learners can attend Pre-K in one of the district's four Early Learning Centers, a neighborhood elementary school or at one of two Montessori schools.
We recommend reviewing school websites, reaching out the schools and taking a look at all our Pre-K offerings to discover the school that's right for your child.
Early Learning Centers
Early Learning Centers (ELCs) are dedicated Pre-K learning hubs that focus on preparing students for kindergarten in an exclusive early learning setting.
- Students will have outdoor experiences, social and emotional learning activities, and structured play designed to support their academic growth.
- MNPS has four ELCs and a fifth site is proposed.
Note: Children must be 4-years-old to attend their school's MNPS Extended Learning Program for beforecare and aftercare.
School-Based Pre-K Classrooms
School-based classrooms are Pre-K classrooms located in elementary schools across Davidson County. These classrooms offer the same Pre-K curriculum as ELCs in an elementary school setting.
As of 2025, MNPS has 60 elementary schools that offer Pre-K.
Find the school best for your child by reviewing the full list of schools.
Montessori Schools
Montessori classes bring children together in multi-age groups. Normally, they span three age levels so a child’s classroom may contain preschool, Pre-K and kindergarten students.
Each Montessori site follows a child-centered educational method developed by Maria Montessori.
MNPS has two Montessori schools.
