Apply for Pre-K

The MNPS Pre-K program is designed to engage and inspire Nashville's youngest learners through play. Each of our classrooms is led by passionate and skilled teachers who are helping shape confident, self-regulated learners.

Starting school is an emotional step in a child's educational journey, but Metro Schools is here to help. MNPS is accepting Pre-K applications for the 2025-26 school year. The 2026-27 Pre-K application opens March 2, 2026.

Follow These Steps for an Easy, Stress-Free Application Process

Step 1

Gather All Required Documents

Record of birth (birth certificate, passport, visa, I-94, etc.) - Children must turn four years old on or before August 15 of the school year they are applying to for Pre-K. Some classrooms accept 3-year-olds.
Proof of Davidson County residency
- This could be a current utility bill, telephone bill, lease or homeowner policy in the parent/guardian's name
Parent/Guardian photo ID
- Parent/Guardian must be present if applying in person
Tennessee Immunization Certificate
- Or appropriate medical or religious exemption forms
- The Metro Public Health Department offers vaccine services.
Student Physical dated within one year of application
Income Documentation (pay stubs, tax returns, etc.)
- Photo of the document is accepted.

Step 2

Get a Student ID Number Online or at an Enrollment Center

Online Option: Upload documents and get your child's Student ID through the MNPS Online Portal.
In-Person Option: You can also make an appointment at an MNPS Enrollment Center to turn in documents and get a Student ID.

Once you have your child's Student ID, you can begin the process of applying for Pre-K online or in person.

Step 3

Pre-K Application can be done online or in person

Apply for Pre-K Online

Use the online application portal to apply for Pre-K for the school year you are applying for.

Families will need to upload income documentation to complete the application.
Be sure to save the application login information.

Apply for Pre-K in Person

Families can apply for Pre-K in person at the Family Information Center, located at 2601 Bransford Ave., Nashville, TN 37204.
The Family Information Center entrance is located at the back of the building, off Berry Rd.

What's Next After Applying?

After submitting the Pre-K application, you will receive instructions on the next steps. If your child has been selected, please follow the instructions and accept your child's seat by the stated deadline.

Dates and deadlines will be updated for 2026-2027.

Is Your Child on a Waitlist?

If your child has been placed on the waitlist, you will receive an email or text message when a space becomes available.

Tips and Reminders When Applying

It may take up to a day for your child's MNPS Student ID number to connect to the Pre-K application platform.
Remember to select the correct school year for which you are applying; there may be two options available.
Families are encouraged to apply after the initial application period. Spots will be filled as vacancies occur.
You may choose up to seven schools on your Pre-K application.
Families who need help uploading documents can visit the Family Information Center and apply in person.
After accepting your child's seat, you will receive an email or text with instructions to complete the Pre-K acceptance packet.
